[SEZON NAGRÓD 2020/2021] Znane są już nominacje do British Independent Film Awards. Najwięcej, bo aż 17 nominacji zdobył psychologiczny horror zatytułowany „Saint Maud”, który przed zamknięciem dostępny był w polskich kinach.
„Saint Maud” to kolejny horrorowy triumf od studia A24 („Midsommar. W biały dzień”, „Dziedzictwo. Hereditary” i „To przychodzi po zmroku”) w diabelnie wizjonerskiej opowieści o opętaniu i zbawieniu. Maud jest młodą dziewczyną, która przyjeżdża do luksusowej posiadłości Amandy – byłej tancerki, która w ostatnich miesiącach życia korzysta z niego bez skrupułów. Dziewczyna przekonana o swojej ważniejszej misji, niż tylko opieka nad konającą Amandą, postanawia ocalić jej grzeszną duszę, co wkrótce zamienia się w niebezpieczną obsesję... Reżyserką i autorką scenariusza jest debiutująca Rose Glass.
O tytuł najlepszego niezależnego brytyjskiego filmu 2020 roku powalczą też „His House” (16 nominacji, można obejrzeć na Netfliksie), „Rocks” (15 nominacji), „Calm With Horses” (10 nominacji, w tym cztery dla Riza Ahmeda, który zagrał i stworzył ten film) oraz „The Father”. Ten ostatni film jest też wymieniany, jako kandydat do Oscarów, ale do BIFA zdobył tylko sześć nominacji, w tym tę dla Anthony’ego Hopkinsa (faworyzowana Olivia Colman nominacji nie otrzymała).
