Zgodnie z informacjami zamieszczonymi na „Variety” o Oscara za najlepszą piosenkę ubiegać będą się aż 94 utwory. Do Oscara za najlepszą muzykę ilustracyjną kwalifikacje uzyskały 149 kompozycje. W obu kategoriach znajduje się piosenka i muzyka do „Chłopów”, naszego Oscarowego kandydata. Jak widać, konkurencja jest bardzo duża.
Głosowanie już trwa, a w tegorocznym konkursie uprawnionych do głosowania było 390 członków branży muzycznej Akademii. Do każdego filmu można zgłosić maksymalnie trzy piosenki i tak się stało z filmem „Barbie”, który dziś powszechnie znajduje się w gronie faworytów tej kategorii. Pięć innych filmów, także skorzystało z szansy zgłoszenia trzech piosenek. Tak zrobili twórcy „Małej Syrenki” i „Życzenia”.
Niektóre kompozycje muzyczne nie przeszły przez regulamin Akademii. Odrzucono na przykład pracę Alexandre’a Desplata do „Asteroid City”. Z powodów regulaminowych odrzucono muzykę do „Wonki”. Jednak piosenki z obu filmów znalazły się na liście kandydatów. Oscarowa weteranka Diane Warren zgłosiła dwie piosenki. Ta artystka od 1987 roku zdobyła już 14 nominacji do Oscara, ale regulaminowa nagroda ją ominęła i cieszyć może ją niedawny Oscar za całokształt twórczości.
Wśród silnych kandydatur jest muzyka i piosenka, zmarłego niedawno Robbiego Robertsona, stworzone do „Czasu krwawego księżyca”. Zgodnie z oczekiwaniami na liście Akademii znalazły się utwory z: „American Symphony”, „Elemental”, „Flora and Son”, „The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, „Rustin”, „Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, „ Film Super Mario Bros.” i „Trolle Band Together”.
W gronie kandydatów są też dwie prace L.U.Ca stworzone do filmu „Chłopi”. Jest na liście jego piosenka „Koniec lata” oraz muzyka ilustracyjna do filmu będącego polskim kandydatem do Oscara w kategorii Film Międzynarodowy. Drugi polski akcent na tych szerokich listach to muzyka do brytyjsko-polskiej koprodukcji „Strefa interesów”, skomponowana przez Micę Levi.
Wszystkie te utwory przechodzą obecnie przez proces głosowania, z którego wyłonione zostaną utwory i kompozycje ilustracyjne, trafiające na skrócone listy kandydatów do Oscarów. Poznamy je 21 grudnia.
