International Press Academy (IPA), organizacja bliźniacza i konkurencyjna w USA dla Hollywoodzkiego Stowarzyszenia Prasy Zagranicznej (Złote Globy), ogłosiło nominacje do swoich tegorocznych nagród. Są one przyznawane dla filmowych produkcji pełnometrażowych i seriali telewizyjnych. Są też laureaci nagród specjalnych. Najwięcej nominacji otrzymał „Mank”, ale nie zdobędzie on nagrody dla najlepszego dramatycznego filmu roku.
Aż 11 nominacji do nagród zdobył „Mank” w reżyserii Davida Finchera, ale ta produkcja Netfliksa nie znalazła się w gronie nominowanych najlepszych dramatów. „Mank” zdobył dwie aktorskie nominacje, doceniono Finchera za reżyserię i jego ojca za scenariusz oraz grono twórców pracujących na innymi elementami filmu (m.in. zdjęcia, muzyka, kostiumy, scenografia). Netflix na listę najlepszych filmów wprowadził dwa tytuły, ale nie ma tutaj faworyzowanych wcześniej „Pięciu braci” (Da Bloods – 2 nominacje) oraz musicalu „Bal” (The Prom – 4 nominacje)
Najwięcej nominacji spośród filmów zbiegających o tytuł najlepszego dramatu zdobył film „One Night in Miami”, który zabiega o 9 wyróżnień. 8 nominacji otrzymał „Nomadland”, o jedną mniej otrzymał „Minari”, a po sześć „The Father” i „Proces siódemki z Chicago”. Grono najlepszych dramatów uzupełniają: „Promising Young Woman” (3 nominacje), „Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” (5), „Tenet” (5), „Sound of Metal” (4) i Miss Juneteenth (1).
Wśród komedii/musicali najwięcej nominacji zdobył film „The Personal History of David Copperfield”, który zabiega o 4 nagrody. W kategorii tej nominacje otrzymały także: „Na lodzie” (On the Rocks – 2 nominacje), „Hamilton” (3), „Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” (3), „Palm Springs” (3), „The Forty-Year-Old Version” (1).
10 filmów zabiega o nagrodę dla najlepszego filmu międzynarodowego, w tym „Na rauszu”, „My dwie”, „Atlantyda” i „La Llorona”. Nie ma tutaj niestety żadnej z naszych koprodukcji. Nie ma też polskich produkcji w kategoriach poświęconych pełnometrażowym dokumentom (10 nominacji) i animacjom (6).
Wśród twórców docenionych w tym roku nagrodami specjalnymi są m.in.: Tilda Swinton, Dick Pope, Mark Wahlberg oraz obsady filmu „Proces siódemki z Chicago” i serialu „The Good Lord Bird”.
