Film „Josephine” zdobył Grand
Prix od jury oraz Nagrodę Publiczności tegorocznej odsłony festiwalu Sundance.
Takie podwójne zwycięstwo podkreśla bardzo silną pozycję tego filmu.
„Josephine” to dramat familijny, który na Sundance zebrał bardzo wiele pochlebnych opinii. Reżyserka Beth de Araújo walczyła ze łzami w oczach, odbierając w piątek nagrodę publiczności, drugą znaczącą nagrodę dla filmu „Josephine”. „Dziękuję publiczności za to, że dali mi pracę” – powiedziała de Araújo. „Kino to mój kościół i tak się cieszę, że mogę tu przyjść i odebrać to od was”. Jak piszą media, bardzo dobre role w filmie zagrali Channing Tatum, Gemma Chan i debiutujący Mason Reeves.
Ceremonia wręczenia nagród miała wydźwięk polityczny, ponieważ wiele filmów w selekcji opowiadało o imigrantach i aktywistach.
„Ponieważ ten rząd atakuje ideę różnorodności, chcę, aby ten film pokazał, że różnorodność nie jest brzydkim słowem i nigdy nim nie będzie” – powiedział David Alvarado, reżyser nagrodzonego przez publiczność amerykańskiego filmu dokumentalnego „American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez”.
W latach poprzednich wśród laureatów nagród na festiwalu Sundance były m.in.: „Sorry, Baby”, „Twinless”, „The Perfect Neighbor”, „A Real Pain”, „Dìdi (弟弟)”, „CODA” i „Summer of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised)”. Wiele z nich na Sundance rozpoczęło swoją znaczącą drogę do nagród podsumowujących rok filmowy. Czekam na premiery wielu z tegorocznych filmów prezentowanych na Sundance i mam taką nadzieję, że nie trafią one jedynie na platformy streamingowe.
To była ostatnia edycja odbywająca się w Park Utah, od przyszłego roku festiwal zmienia swoją siedzibę. Pożegnanie z tym legendarnym miejscem było okazałe, pojawiło się wielu twórców, których filmy tutaj pokazywano. Wspominano też zmarłego w zeszłym roku, założyciela Sundance, Roberta Redforda.
