Kolejna znacząca amerykańska grupa krytyków filmowych przyznała swoje doroczne nagrody. National Board of Review za najlepszy film 2023 roku uznało „Czas krwawego księżyca” Martina Scorsese, który otrzymał także nagrodę za reżyserię oraz za główną rolę kobiecą Lily Gladstone i zdjęcia Rodrigo Prieto. NBR zaprezentowało także listy z najlepszymi filmami roku, z filmami dokumentalnymi, niezależnymi i zagranicznymi. Na tej ostatniej jest brytyjsko-polska „Strefa interesów”.
Nagroda za reżyserię dla Scorsese stawia go na równi z Davidem Leanem, który w swojej karierze także zdobył cztery nagrody od National Board of Review. W ciągu ostatnich 30 lat zwycięzca najlepszego filmu NBR zazwyczaj otrzymywał nominację do Oscara za najlepszy film, ale zdarzyły się też wyjątki i dotyczyły one filmów „A Most Violent Year”, ”Quills”, “Gods and Monsters”, “Empire of the Sun” i “Betrayal”. „Czas krwawego księżyca” nie dołączy do tego grona, pytanie tylko czy zdobędzie Oscara dla najlepszego filmu roku. Jego szanse rosną, a na pewno jest jednym z kilku tylko poważnych konkurentów do najważniejszej nagrody filmowej na świecie.
Paul Giamatti otrzymał nagrodę za najlepszą rolę, którą brawurowo zagrał w filmie „Przesilenie zimowe”. Ten film w reżyserii Aleksandra Payne zdobył też nagrodę za scenariusz oryginalny i rolę drugoplanową Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Za męską rolę drugoplanową doceniono Marka Ruffalo występującego w „Biednych istotach”. Ten film doceniono też za scenariusz adaptowany.
„Poprzednie życie” uznano za najlepszy debiut, „Anatomię upadku” za najlepszy film zagraniczny, „Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” za dokument roku, a „Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” za najlepszą animację.
NBR wybrało też listy z najlepszymi produkcjami 2023 roku, dzieląc je na odpowiednie kategorie. Wśród najlepszych filmów roku są oczywiście „Barbie” i „Oppenheimer”, ale też animowany „Chłopiec i czapla”, „Ferrari”, „Maestro” i wspomniane „Przesilenie zimowe”, „Poprzednie życie”, „Biedne istoty”.
W gronie najlepszych filmów zagranicznych są „La Chimera”, „Opadające liście”, „Totem” i nasza „Strefa interesów”. Są też zestawienia najlepszych dokumentów i filmów niezależnych.
