Nominacje do swoich dorocznych nagród ogłosiła Akademia Science Fiction, Fantasy i Horroru. Bardzo lubię te nagrody, bo poruszają się one w przestrzeni kina gatunkowego. Saturny doceniają SF, horrory, fantasy, filmy superbohaterskie, kino przygodowe/akcji, thrillery, animacje, ale też produkcje zagraniczne, niezależne i te stworzone dla małego ekranu.
Akademia jest w kilku miejscach oryginalna w swoich wyborach, ale zdecydowanie porusza się wokół tych produkcji, które zostały zauważone, odniosły sukces i wiele o nich mówiono. Jest tutaj też wiele wskazówek, które mogą rekomendacyjnie pomóc odnaleźć wartościowe filmy/seriale, w gąszczu tak wielu i w dodatku dość przeciętnych lub nieudanych realizacji.
W tym roku nominacje do Saturnów zdominował „Avatar: Istota wody”, który otrzymał ich aż 12. To o dwie więcej niż oryginalny „Avatar” w 2010 roku. Saturny to jedno z nielicznych miejsc, gdzie nominacje zdobyć mogą aktorzy występujący w tym filmie, bo w tym roku zauważono Sama Worthingtona, Zoe Saldane, Stephena Langa i młodego aktora Jacka Championa. Są też nominacje dla Jamesa Camerona za reżyserię i scenariusz, ale przede wszystkim nominacja dla najlepszego SF.
11 nominacji do Saturnów zdobył „Oppenheimer”, w tym w kategorii doceniającej najlepsze thrillery. Christopher Nolan, jak Cameron, ubiega się o nagrodę za reżyserię i scenariusz, a wśród nominowanych aktorów i aktorek znaleźli się Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. i Emily Blunt.
Studio Universal stojące za „Oppenheimerem” zdobyło w sumie 23 nominacje, także za filmy „Renfield”, „M3GAN” i „Szybcy i wściekli 10”. Studio Paramount ma tych nominacji 18, ale zalicza się do tego 9 nominacji dla „Indiany Jonesa i artefaktu przeznaczenia” (choć to realizacja podpisana wspólnie z Disneyem/LucasFilm).
Osiem nominacji zdobyła też „Barbie”, w tym za najlepsze fantasy oraz role aktorskie Margot Robbie i Ryana Goslinga. Nominację otrzymała też Greta Gerwig za reżyserię i to właśnie ta kategoria uchodzi za najbardziej ciekawą, bo są tutaj także: wspomniani Cameron i Nolan, ale także James Gunn od trzecich „Strażników Galaktyki”, James Mangold za finałową odsłonę „Indiany Jonesa”, Mark Mylod za „Menu” oraz co szczególnie cieszy Danny i Michael Philippou za horror „Mów do mnie!”.
Bardzo fajnie prezentują się poszczególne listy nominacji, gdzie podzielono filmy według gatunków. W gronie najlepszych filmów science fiction są poza „Avatarem”, takie produkcje, jak „Twórca”, „M3GAN”, „Prey” i „Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”. W kategorii z filmami fantasy faworytką jest „Barbie”, ale to tutaj jej przeciwnikiem jest Indiana Jones, Mała Syrenka oraz „Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”.
O tym, że dobrze radzi sobie w dzisiejszych czasach horror, świadczy to, że w kategorii tej jest aż 7 nominowanych produkcji. Z tych ciekawszych zwrócę uwagę na „Barbarian”, „Smile” i wspomniany „Mów do mnie!”. Trochę mniej interesuje mnie kategoria z filmami o superbohaterach, ale cieszy obecność „Strażników Galaktyki Vol. 3”. W tej kategorii trzy filmy ma Marvel, a dwa DC. Bardzo fajna jest za to kategoria z filmami akcji/przygodowymi, bo konkurują ze sobą popularne i udane: „Bullet Train”, „The Equalizer 3”, „Szybcy i wściekli 10”, „John Wick 4” czy nowe „Mission: Impossible”. W sumie są tutaj cztery sequele i dwa nowe filmowe pomysły, w tym także „The Woman King”. O tytuł najlepszego thrillera obok „Oppenheimera” znalazły się m.in. nowe „Na noże”, nie tak udane „Don’t Worry Darling” oraz znacznie lepsze „The Menu”. Na liście animacji jest tylko jedna produkcja związana z Disneyem i jest to „Elemental”, a konkurencja to m.in. Kot w butach, Spider-Man, Super Mario Bros., Wojownicze żółwie ninja i japońska Suzume. Bardzo ciekawy zestaw.
Kategorie telewizyjne zdominowały produkcje z cyklu „Star Trek”. „Star Trek: Picard” zdobył ich 7, a „Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” ma ich 6. Po pięć nominacji zdobył znacznie bardziej nagłośnione „Andor” Disneya i „The Last of Us” HBO.
Z zazdrością i podziwem patrzę na kategorię poświęcona fizycznym wydawnictwom płytowym, które jakoby właśnie „umierają”. Te kolekcjonerskie wydawnictwa nominowane do Saturnów wyglądają bardzo ciekawie. Są cztery takie kategorie. W tej poświęconej klasyce filmowej jest kilka wydań 4K, w tym legendarne „It Came from Outer Space”, „The Manchurian Candidate”, „The Night of the Hunter”. Najlepsze wydawnictwa 4K to „The Adventures of Baron Munchausen”, „The Exorcist 50th Anniversary Edition”, „Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition”. Te najciekawsze to wydawnictwa kolekcjonerskie, a tam m.in.: „Irwin Allen: Master of Disaster Collection”, „Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror, Volume 2” czy „Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary 25 Film Collection: Vol. 4 (Thrillers, Sci-fi, Horror)”. I niestety nie spodziewam się ich w polskich edycjach.
Laureatów nagród poznamy 4 lutego 2024 roku. Saturny przyznane zostaną po raz 51.
