Nominacje do nagród Critics Choice Documentary

Produkcja Netfliksa zatytułowana “American Symphony”, która opowiada o przygotowaniu Jona Batiste’a do występu w Carnegie Hall zdobyła sześć nominacji do  Critics Choice Documentary Award 2023. Po pięć nominacji zdobyły “20 Days in Mariupol”, “Kokomo City” i “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie”.

Critics Choice Documentary Award przyznawane są od ośmiu lat i dwukrotnie najlepszy film dokumentalny z tą nagrodą, zdobywał potem Oscara. Tak było w 2016 roku z „OJ: Made in America” i w 2021 roku z „Summer of Soul”. Przed rokiem nagrodę Critics Choice Documentary zdobył film „Good Night Oppy” Ryana White’a, który został przez Akademię Filmową pominięty.

Na liście nominowanych jest też dokument muzyczny „The Eras Tour”, który w miniony weekend wystartował w amerykańskich kinach, przynosząc 95 mln dolarów wpływów, co jest rekordem wszech czasów dla koncertowego filmu. Jednak zgodnie z regulaminem Oscarowym, film ten nie kwalifikuje się do rywalizacji o Nagrodę Akademii.

Uznany dokumentalista Ross McElwee zostanie uhonorowany nagrodą Pennebaker Award (wcześniej znaną jako Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award), nazwaną na cześć DA Pennebakera. Laureatów wszystkich nagród poznamy 12 listopada.
