„Spider-Man: Poprzez uniwersum” zdominował 51. edycję nagród Annie, najważniejszych wyróżnień przyznawanych w USA animacjom. Film ten zdobył tytuł najlepszego filmu animowanego i sześć innych wyróżnień. To czyni ten film faworytem animowanego Oscara, jednak niczego nie przesądzajmy, bowiem Annie zdobyła też japońska animacja „Chłopiec i czapla”.
Oba te filmy będą rywalizować o Oscara dla pełnometrażowej animacji, w grze jest też hiszpańska animacja „Pies i robot”, która wygrała kategorię przeznaczoną dla produkcji niezależnych. Od wprowadzenia Oscara dla pełnometrażowej animacji, 14 zdobywców nagród Annie, otrzymało potem Nagrodę Akademii. Tak był między innymi przed rokiem.
Nowy „Spider-Man” zdobył nagrody za reżyserię, muzykę, scenografię, projektowanie postaci, efekty specjalne i montaż. Film Hayao Miyazaki „Chłopiec i czapla” oraz „Nimona” z serwisu Netflix zdobyli po dwa trofea. „Nimona” otrzymała nagrody za scenariusz i aktorstwo głosowe dla Chloë Grace Moretz, a „Chłopiec i czapla” zdobyła nagrodę za najlepszy scenorys dla swojego reżysera Hayao Miyazakiego i za animację postaci.
W kategoriach telewizyjnych zwyciężył serial „Blue Eye Samurai” z serwisu Netflix, który zdobył nagrody za scenariusz, montaż, efekty wizualne, projektowanie postaci, scenografię i najlepszy program telewizyjny/media dla dojrzałych odbiorców. Disney i Pixar zaliczyli jedną z największych porażek w swojej historii.
